Here’s what you might want to know

Type: Italian chain restaurant
Location: Broughton, Chester
Occasion: Post-shopping dinner
Spend: Around £20+ per main (before discounts)
Verdict: Used to be a solid choice — now overpriced and underwhelming

Vibe: Chain Italian gone weary
Would I go again? No — it’s officially on The List
Good / Bad / Meh:

  • Good: The Pinot Grigio — drinkable, if a bit steep
  • Bad: The food quality and value for money
  • Meh: Service was fine if not a bit slow, the sparkle’s long gone

There was a time when Prezzo was our reliable go-to for a midweek Italian — consistent, comforting, and easy on the purse. Lately, though, each visit has felt like a step further downhill, and this latest one in Broughton, Chester, has tipped it into The List (our running tally of places we wouldn’t rush back to).

The first red flag? The prices. They’ve crept up so much that Prezzo doesn’t even show them on their online menu anymore — a clever move, perhaps, if you don’t want to scare people off. We always use a Meerkat Meals 25% off voucher (you can find the details here), but even with that, it felt expensive. The pasta dishes were nudging £20, and frankly, the food didn’t justify it.

The waiter recommended the new Marry Me Chicken (see picture below) – this ended in a quickie divorce — the sauce was lacking body and depth, peppered with dry, lonely lumps of chicken. My beardy husband’s Creamy King Prawn and Salmon Rigatoni was disappointing: unbalanced flavours and rigatoni that was the wrong vehicle altogether — like trying to tow a trailer with a bicycle.

To be fair, the menu reads beautifully. It’s just a shame that what arrives on the plate doesn’t live up to the promise. The trying to find a redeeming feature; the Pinot Grigio, which was perfectly drinkable, and the perfect temperature, but overpriced for what it was.

I genuinely hope Prezzo finds its way again. For now, though, when I need a quick refuel after a bit of retail therapy, I’ll be heading to Nando’s for a spicy rice bowl instead.
