It’s barely even camping!
Thoroughly enjoyed our annual off grid weekend at Great Farm, Whelford.
The weather of course helped but Nightingale camp has plenty of room to hole up with a book or some good old fashioned board games if the weather isn’t so kind.
Leonie is a fantastic host, always thinking of ways to make your stay better. Little things like the Kindle Kit ready and waiting with everything you need to light your camp fire or BBQ.
They have just opened a new camp, Kingfisher Camp, which includes an outdoor wood fired hot tub like all their other camps.
The chalk river Coln which runs through the farm provides a stunning border to the camps. Follow it through the farm to a nearby bridleway and just over two miles later, you’ll find yourself in Lechlade were there’s a limited but ample range of pubs, eateries and shops for supplies.
Fairford is also within walking distance.
The camps have gas fired fridges and hot water and running water for washing up (and flushing loos!). The only real ‘convenience’ you’re missing is electricity….but then that’s the appeal for me.
There are solar powered lights but having stayed at Otter and Nightingale camp, would recommend you take battery powered head torches and lamps as they aren’t particularly bright if you really need to see anything.
If you like a bacon butty in the morning, take a frying pan as not all the camps have them. Likewise, if you’re particular about cutlery, crockery or cooking equipment, take your own as only the very basics are provided. We took our portable pizza oven, like I say, barely even camping! 😉
From £95/night. Kingfisher Camp is brand new so has better availability for the rest of the year if you’re thinking of visiting.
All camps are dog friendly.
If you like the idea of an off grid weekend without the usual downsides of camping, other similar properties can be found at Canopy and Stars.
