A great addition of top quality cooking to Shropshire’s list of fine dining establishments.
No 33 High Street Whitchurch has had a few different guises over recent years. It is now in the hands of husband and wife team, Stuart and Frances Collins who recently opened Docket No. 33.
The decor is simple but tasteful, creating a relaxing atmosphere. There’s a lovely bar area if you just want to sample one of their excellent wines or for pre dinner drinks.

As the tasting menu includes all Stuarts signature dishes, we opted for this to get a flavour of his cooking. It is £37 for four courses (and a couple of extra little surprises) and can be paired with drinks for an additional £20.

I had fully intended on trying one of the British wines they list but entirely forgot about my intentions an opted for a Spanish Chenin Blanc which was an excellent pairing for all the dishes, especially with the lemon thyme and honey flavours in the wonderfully textures, crunchy granola dessert. Bottles of wine start from a very reasonable (by today’s restaurant standards) £17.
There is also an a la carte menu feature a limited but carefully constructed choice of other dishes.
One of the highlights for me was the home made beer bread with creamy, soft salted butter. Delicious!
Frances lead a team of enthusiastic and polite front of house staff. Our water and wine glasses were never empty and service was very speedy given the work that clearly went into each dish.
A very welcome addition to the High Street!
