Sandwiches, teas and a selection of cakes and pastries that are a work of art!

If you’re looking for an indulgent treat then afternoon tea at The Arkle Bar and Lounge at the Chester Grosvenor is perfect.

I have now set in stone the tradition of taking both the mums (my Mum and Mum-in-law) to the Grosvenor for afternoon tea on Mother’s Day.  I see this as the ideal Mother’s Day treat as I get to enjoy it too!

The attention to detail and service at the Grosvenor is outstanding, as you’d expect from Chester’s premier 5 star hotel.

There’s a few different options to choose from.  The Traditional Afternoon Tea is £32pp and consists of:

A selection of handmade sandwiches on freshly baked bread

Freshly baked plain and fruit scones served with clotted cream and strawberry preserve

Assortment of home made French pastries and fancies

Freshly brewed Tea and Coffee.

Add a glass of chilled champagne to that to make it ‘indulgent’ for £45pp.

My personal favourite though is the Gentleman’s Afternoon Tea consisting of;

Floured bloomer, crispy haddock, tartare sauce

Open rye, roast beef, pastrami, mustard and pickles

Baked pork and apple savoury

Appleby’s Cheshire cheese

Freshly baked plain and fruit scones served with clotted cream and strawberry preserve

Double chocolate gateaux

Caramel Mousse

Freshly brewed Tea and Coffee

Which whilst being very refined, is still super hearty and filling.

If you want to make this ‘indulgent’, you still have the option of champagne or you can pair with a Hendricks G&T.

The ambience is relaxed but refined and both mothers felt suitably spoilt by the time we were done.

The only improvement we could suggest would be to have a warm towel supplied once you have finished.  Sticky fingers are unavoidable (but part of the fun) with the beautifully light scones, jam and cream!

Booking in advance is a must, especially on occasions such as Mother’s Day (and don’t forget Father’s Day!).

Date of Visit: March 2016
