Bistro Jacques is in a brilliant location in Shrewsbury town at the junction of Pride Hill and Mardol.  It’s actually part of a small restaurant group but manages to create the feel of an independent, with a rustic French theme.

Bistro Jacques - Review My Trip

Their menu is packed with special offers; we took advantage of the pre theatre menu (available Sun – Thurs, 4.30 – 7pm, Fri & Sat, 4.30 – 6.30pm) which offers three courses for £12.90.  I had the buttered shrimp to start, Poulet Chassuer for main followed by the creme brulee for dessert.  The presentation was not fussy, the portions were sensible and all were very well cooked.  A wide selection of vegetables accompanied the mains and were a very welcome change from the ‘nuked’ offerings you can be served in so many restaurants nowadays.  The dauphinoise were so tasty, we couldn’t resist ordering the tartiflette too!  I can also recommend the spicy pumpkin soup and rainbow trout after pinching a bit of my husbands!

With the special offers for early dining, they do operate two sittings and I’d recommend booking to avoid disappointment.  If you’re local to the restaurant, then to be honest, you probably already know about this, but the Tuesday “Wine and Dine” offer (2 courses from the A La Carte menu plus a bottle of house wine per person for only £16.95) also offers excellent value.

Tuesday at Bistro Jacques - Review My Trip

I would happily visit again and will be keeping my eyes peeled on my travels for their other restaurants.
