This was our second trip to Lomac Aviators.  The first was a little taster flight using a Groupon voucher two years ago, but ‘Captain Husband’ fancied another go and I wanted to go up with him this time.

Oulton Park from the air
We flew over the Oulton Park circuit

Having never been in a small aircraft before, I really fancied seeing what flying was like in a small plane so booked a four seater on a 1 hour trial flight so that I could go up too.

The briefing before take off was thorough (as you’d expect) but we were soon up in the air with my better half at the controls.  I’m not keen on turbulence in a big aircraft but boy, do you feel it in a small aircraft!!  After the first few roller coaster peaks and troughs and a stern talking to myself (‘it’s only like bumps in the road’), I was fine and we were soon being treated to views extending for miles and miles across into North Wales.

Living only 45min away from Speke airport, we were able to fly over our house.  Neil, our instructor for the flight, even obliged with a few wing dips to allow me to get some good pictures of the house!  Top tip though, if you get travel sick, don’t spend too much time taking photos!

We then made a bee line for the Cheshire plains, flying over lots of local landmarks.  I couldn’t get over how close together everything seems from 1500ft.  It looked like Peckforton Castle and Beeston Castle were only a stones throw apart!

It was just 50ft away from the landing strip before Neil took the controls again, I was proud wife, hubby did good!

Another thing off the bucket list 🙂

It cost £160 for both of us to go up for one hour, and should you get a taste for it, that hour would count towards getting your private pilots licence.

If you’re thinking of booking, a cool, clear Winters day is the best time to fly (less thermals means less roll coaster turbulence!).

Date of visit: August 2015
