Silver Birches is a small (really quite small, pitch sizes are limited to 8 x 5.5m) campsite nestled in Snowdonia run by Marion and Ian McLeod.

Snowdonia Campsite

We used it as a base intending to attempt the rangers path up Snowdon, but the weather got the better of us.  It’s ideally placed as a base for this path, with the start being just 1 1/2 miles down the road (with parking at the start of the path if you don’t fancy adding 1 1/2 miles to an already long walk!).

The campsite site isn’t posh but has everything you need, washrooms, toilets, freezer (for your freezer blocks), hair dryer, Kettle, microwave, washing machine and tumble dryer and you’ll receive a very warm welcome from Marion who was wonderfully helpful in pointing out alternative trails for us which were more appropriate for the weather conditions (Beddgelert Forest has some lovely walks on hard pack paths).

The electric hook up pitches (which to me are glamping necessity!) are next to the road but we didn’t find this a problem as it was quiet at night.

The things that attracted us to this camp site were that it is dog friendly (although don’t book if your dog barks at anything that moves, as it’s a small site, there’s no getting away from your dog seeing and hearing the activity of other campers, it’s also open access to the main road so your dog will need to be on a lead at all times) and that there’s no children allowed!! Ah, bliss!

Beddgelert is just 20 minutes drive down the road for facilities such as outdoor supply shops, general supply shops and a range of pubs and hotels for food.

The tariffs start from just £6.50 per person per night (one person, one tent, low season) but are very reasonable throughout the year.
